SHED Fitness: Can You Dig It?
I like to consider myself pretty hardcore. Two-a-days, heavy lifting, obstacle courses, I’m always down. So, I was pleasantly surprised when SHED Fitness, one of Memphis’ newest studios, gave me a serious challenge.
Similar to my first love, Barry’s Bootcamp, each day of the week focuses on a different muscle group. Since the studio opened, I’ve tried Tuesday’s “lower body” class and Wednesday’s “arms & abs” class, which were great. But, it was their signature class “Shredder” held on Thursdays that had me in full beast mode. Just the mention of the word “shredder” makes me think of the Incredible Hulk. From outdoor sandbag sprints to working the core with pikes using the row machine, you are guaranteed to feel some soreness in your muscles the next day.
The workout is split into five to six stations where you do 45 – 50 seconds of activity with short breaks, which goes by fast. Sometimes, when I finally got myself situated with proper form, the timer went off, and I had to move to the next station. While I truly believe you can make it through whatever you put your mind to, I would recommend this workout for someone who has a basic knowledge of circuit training.
